    INTRODUCTION: What is Science? Different kind of scientists. Notions of the history of Science and breakthroughs.
    Ecosystems Part I
    Notion of environment and ecosystem. Kinds of ecosystems.
    Is there any ecosystem in my school? How can habitats be maintained?
    What steps can I take to reduce damage in these ecosystems?
    How does climate affect organisms?
    PREZI PRESENTATION Biotic and abiotic factors in the ecosystem
    ABIOTIC FACTORS in the ecosystem
    -Soil: Composition. Characteristics. kinds of soils. Kinds and use of rocks.
    Earth´s interior. Fossils.
    -Air (atmosphere): Composition. Most important gases: Nitrogen-oxygen-carbon dioxide. Ozono layer.
    -Water: Domestic use. Weather conditions. The water cycle.
    Melting point, freezing point, boiling and condensation points of water.
    Matter: the three states (solid, liquid and gas) characteristics of the three states. Changes of state: (physical changes) Processes of evaporation, melting , condensation and solidification (freezing).
    -Light: Natural source of light: The sun.
    -Temperature: Natural source of heat: The sun. Measuring temperature: use of the thermometer and unit ºC
    -Contamination and climate change: How humans affect the environments. Positive actions. Climate changes in my city. Natural phenoma usually observed (cloud-rain-thunder-lightning-static electricity-others).
    Introducing measurements: time, length, temperature. Use of lab instruments and units.-Measuring temperature (°C) : the thermometer , and
    volume (ml): rain gauze. Building apparatus. Making decisions on what to measure to collect relevant information and what instruments and units to use.

    BIOTIC FACTORS in the ecosystem
    -Populations-Organisms found in the different ecosystems: pond-forest-prairie/grassland-desert-poles-Communities- The five kingdoms (only classification). Adaptations of animals and plants to their environment. Food and shelter relations among plants, animals and fungi in their habitats. Energy transfer. Photosynthesis. Roles and positions in the food chain: producer, 1st consumer, 2nd consumer, 3er consumer, decomposer. Food webs. The human being is a consumer. How the human impact and climate change affect the ecosystem.

    Notions:
    Matter. Properties. The states: solid, liquid and gas.
    Properties of matter. Heat and matter. Changes in the state of matter: WATER: evaporation/condensation-melting/solidification.
    The water cycle.
    The Particle Theory.
    Heat is energy
    - Heat travels through matter: propagation: conduction – convection – radiation; expansion
    - The action of heat on some substances. Physical and chemical changes: reversible and irreversible processes. Expansion.
    - Combustion and contamination.
    - Light is energy. How light travels. Natural source of light:: the sun. Artificial sources=====- The combustion. The use of the bunsen burner in the laboratory. Making and extinguishing fire.=====
    What fuels do I regularly use at home/school? How much do I know about these fuels? Why do I need to use fuels? Are they dangerous? How careful am I when I use them or I use home appliances?
    ECOSYSTEMS PART III: Biotic factors
    CONTENTS
    -Ecosystems: rainforest, desert, tundra, pond, savannah, mountains. Adaptations of animals and plants to their habitats.
    -Classification of organisms and their food relations.
    -Ecosystem loss. Extreme living conditions in ecosystems: temperature and water.
    Food and Nutrition. Growing Healthy
    Do I eat well ? What do I and my family usually eat in a day? What do I choose to eat if I have options? What do I need to eat according to my age? What do i understand by diet, food and nutrients? What foods are important in my community? Do all the people in my community have access to all the foods and nutrients?
    - A healthy diet. Different diets and reasons. Food vs. Nutrients. Food pyramids. How my body uses the food to turn it into energy.
    -Relation among digestive, respiratory and circulatory systems. Physical stereotypes vs real healthy people .

    What do I understand by "Respect Life" and "Being Tolerant with Others"? How well do humans share the planet with other species? Are certain organisms more important than others? Why are organisms classified into different groups? If a group of organisms decreases in number or disappears, what would be the consequences for the other groups?
    CONTENTS
    -Similarities and differences between plants and animals.
    -Cells, tissues, organs and systems. Classification of living things: the five kingdoms. Interactions among plants, animals and their environment (food chains-adaptations.
    -Plants:Revision of the parts of a plant and their functions. Living processes: reproduction. The cycle of a flower: flowering, pollination, fertilization, seed production and germination. Dissection of a flower.

    What can I do to keep myself healthy?Where should I go if I need advice about how to keep healthy ? How good are my local health care and sports facilities?     Ideas and evidence in Science:
    Collection of evidence. Predicting and testing ideas based on scientific knowledge and understanding.
    Planning experimental work:
    Suggesting questions, designing a fair test, collecting evidence, choosing apparatus and what to measure. Identification of factors to be taken into account.
    Obtain and Present evidence:
    Making relevant observations and comparisons. Measuring. Need for repeated measurements and observations. Record of results in tables, bar charts and line graphs. Making a lab report with help.
    Consider evidence and evaluate:
    Identification of trends and patterns in results and suggestions of explanations. Contrast between evidence and prediction. Interpretation of data. Drawing conclusions. Link of evidence to scientific knowledge and understanding.
